Hardware developer/Integration Engineer

This hybrid office/remote/field based role is critical to the successful delivery of a new and innovative display Gantry currently 'live' in 193 shops incorporating over 800 hardware terminals in the UK and ROI. This new technology makes it possible for customers to engage with our product and service in new ways with the aim to achieve roll-out to the entire estate of stores next year. 

You will also be the SME supporting our existing L1/L2 teams with the typical day to day challenges and those related to our ground-breaking new gantry array.

Responsible for the integration of hardware peripherals through com/USB and central services and providing sophisticated monitoring and troubleshooting for Linux-based servers that are virtualized. You will use troubleshooting procedures and technical information to identify the severity of incidents and carry out appropriate resolutions, research issues that do not have a recognized solution and prepare a resolution process for them. You will create the process to automate the standardized steps, perform scripts, and complete instructions lists.

 
Key responsibilities:
  • New terminals / hardware development – Building low-level integration between hardware and centralised services. 
  • Experience interacting with peripheral devices and resolving the software issues on a priority basis 
  • Deploy solutions independently and manage and maintain infrastructure and systems, assisting in system design, at times. 
  • Add intrinsic value as a credible SME in at least one key area.
    Ensure that the optimal levels of systems and infrastructure are available, escalating issues to system administrators
    Consistent evaluation of and design of new and existing policies and processes, developing automation scripts and programs.
  • Aid in managing Linux server infrastructures. 
  • Support & Monitoring - Ensuring key events are logged to ensure effectively support of the hardware.
  • On call support – to be available as required to support L1/L2 support teams
  • Experience with the installation process, issue resolution, remotely supporting Mass Roll out
 
Required Experienced
  • 4 + years relevant work experience 
  • A SME in at least one area able to communicate complex information meaningfully to all relevant stakeholders using language and methods to bring clarity and facilitate general understanding sufficiently so that challenges can be explained and resolved and progress made.
  • An excellent influencer with peers, senior management and key people who may have limited involvement on a day to day basis.
  • Able to bring clarity and play a key role in the development of a cohesive core team.
  •  Experience of supporting and diagnosing issues on Linux systems (preferably Oracle Linux or Red Hat Linux, but Ubuntu or Debian also acceptable)
  • 4+ years of experience interacting with any peripheral devices (such as reading the feed/data from com/USB/Serial Ports or interacting with any third party hardware devices).
  • Experience with Java development Experience with packaging software Electron or NodeJS, RPM packaging
  • Skilled at collaborating effectively with engineering teams.
  • Ability to simplify complex situations and lead calmly through periods of crisis.
  • Experience implementing and optimizing operational processes.
  • Working knowledge of GIT/SVN version control tools
  • Nice to have any Experience in at least one scripting languages   Shell Scripting/Perl/Python/Ruby
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Experience with Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL)
