Risk Manager

The Risk Manager will help define, shape & plan the Risk strategy and programmes and initiatives, and then manage project delivery either directly or via the Risk team. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a sustainable difference for our stakeholders, employees & our business to help them identify, understand, evaluate, and manage risks within their area of the business, whether that be at a Divisional or Functional level.

Working with a wide range of stakeholders, strong stakeholder management skills, along with a strong leadership discipline are essential for success in this role.

Developing and maintaining positive relationships with the relevant Divisions, Functions, regulatory authorities, and third-party service providers to ensure best practice.

Key responsibilities:
  • Support all aspects of risk operations including risk assessment planning, delivery, and reporting.
  • Facilitate risk workshops with senior stakeholders across the business, including emerging and climate related risks.
  • Support risk owners and BU leaders to articulate and assess risk (both threat and opportunity) and draw up appropriate management plans.
  • Work with the business to identify and assess existing controls and new action plans required to effectively manage the risks identified.
  • Build close working relationships with risk-leads in each division and function to develop and maintain strong collaborative working relationships to promote, embed and develop risk management and a risk aware culture.
  • Support the risk-leads to maintain their Risk Registers, Risk Action Plans and significant Risk Dashboards in each part of the business.
  • Be a key escalation point for risks that threaten or enhance the achievement of objectives.
  • Coordinate reports to appropriate Risk Meetings, attend and contribute to these meetings
  • Facilitate deep dives into significant risks when needed
  • Support Risk Committees and meetings
  • Assist the implementation and testing of Business Continuity Management
  • Support the implementation and training on the risk management system
  • Work closely with Internal Audit and other assurance functions to provide risk information to gain assurance on the quality of risk management controls.
  • Maintain knowledge of Group Risk Management standards and external requirements such as the ISO 31000, FRC regulations and guidance etc.

Specialist skills and experience:

  • Excellent leadership skills.
  • Proven team leadership experience.
  • Commercial understanding/acumen of business KPIs.
  • Experience producing business cases which focus on customer experience and commercial drivers.
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project, and Visio.
  • Excellent presentation skills.

Qualifications & Educational Requirements:

  • Recognised risk qualification.
  • Membership of the IRM or a similarly recognised professional body.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in risk-related roles
  • Relevant experience reporting to Leadership Teams, Boards or Audit Committees
  • Ability to challenge with diplomacy
  • Experience of Business Continuity is desirable
  • Experience with risk tools is desirable
  • Experience with risk or similar systems is desirable
  • Comfortable with the use of data analytics
  • Understanding of ISO 31000 and the COSO ERM Framework and other relevant standards and frameworks
  • Experience with rapidly expanding large international companies is desirable
  • Member of a recognised institution e.g. Institute of Risk Management, with in-depth knowledge of risk assurance and compliance. A background either as a practitioner or as an operations leader with a passion for Risk is essential.
