Purpose of role

This role will report to the Group Head of Litigation and work with colleagues across the global legal, regulatory, compliance and customer service teams. Their principal duty will be to managing a number of customer disputes that Entain handles but there is also scope to assist with a number of litigation matters that the Group handles too.

 

Some of the management of customer disputes is currently outsourced to external counsel and, whilst it is likely that the more material claims will remain outsourced, the role would require the candidate to manage and handle a larger number of customer dispute claims in-house.

Key responsibilities

  • Considering claims brought by individual customers in the Small Claims Courts in England & Wales and managing the preparation of Entain’s defences;
  • Managing trainees in relation to the preparation of defences and responding to Small Claims Court claims in general;
  • Where necessary, preparing for and attending remote Small Claims Court hearings and making submissions on behalf of Entain;
  • Instructing barristers to represent Entain at hearings;
  • Instructing external counsel in relation to higher value claims brought by individual customers and managing these claims;
  • Considering and implementing Entain’s overall strategy in relation to the defence of claims brought by customers; and
  • Considering and advising the international customer care team on their responses to customers that threaten legal action.

Specialist skills and experience

Essential:

  • A UK-qualified lawyer with a litigation and disputes resolution background and 4+ years' PQE at a City law firm or in a similar in-house environment;
  • Knowledge and experience of handling customers disputes and claims in the small claims court;
  • Knowledge and experience of handling broader corporate disputes; and
  • Able to effectively communicate with internal, cross-functional teams.

 

Desired:

  • In-house or secondment experience of managing external counsel and partnering with internal, cross-functional teams;
  • Cross-border litigation experience; and
  • Prior experience working for, or on behalf of, consumer-led, technology driven and/or regulated businesses.
